MATERIALS FOR THERMAL APPLICATIONS
Why use ceramics in thermal management?
Heating systems need materials that manage electrical isolation, temperature changes, and heat generation. These are distinct functions, and each calls for a suitable ceramic composition.
Isolate live heating components
Ceramic insulators support and separate electrical components in heating equipment. The material and component design must match the operating voltage and temperature.
Manage stress from temperature changes
Low-expansion ceramics such as cordierite are used where thermal shock resistance matters. Material selection and part geometry help address stresses during heating and cooling.
Provide self-regulating heat
PTC ceramic elements increase in electrical resistance as their temperature rises in the regulating range. At a fixed voltage, this reduces power input and provides a self-regulating heating response.
